Below are the application guidelines for architects seeking assessment through the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA):
1. Check Your Eligibility
Applicants must possess a recognized tertiary qualification in architecture that enables them to register as an architect in the country where the degree was obtained. In most cases, a five-year architecture program is required, along with a minimum of six months of relevant paid architectural experience and evidence of English language proficiency.
2. Gather the Necessary Documents
Candidates need to provide comprehensive documentation such as degree certificates, academic transcripts, proof of identity, employment reference letters, and other academic records. Additionally, applicants must submit a portfolio showcasing 3–4 architectural projects and written competency statements aligned with the National Standard of Competency for Architects (NSCA).
3. Apply Through the OQA Pathway
Applications must be lodged under the Overseas Qualifications Assessment (OQA) program. This process evaluates whether an applicant’s overseas architecture qualification is equivalent to an accredited Australian architecture qualification and generally includes a competency assessment interview.
4. Review Process and Final Outcome
Once the application is reviewed, the AACA may request additional information or revisions before arranging the Competency Assessment Interview. Applicants who successfully meet the requirements receive an assessment outcome letter, which can support skilled migration applications and further steps toward professional architect registration in Australia.
