4. Technical Proficiency

This describes how you show off your engineering abilities, innovation, experience, and resourcefulness.

Engineers Australia Basic CPD Requirements

The applicant’s CPD record should be 150 hours minimum over the previous three years. Out of the 150 hours, the applicants must dedicate their work hours according to the format below:

  • At least 50 hours in the field of your expertise
  • At least 10 hours of handling risk management
  • Company and management skills for at least 15 hours
  • Remaining hours covering applicant’s activities during their career path

Engineering academics and instructors must show that they have completed at least 40 hours of CPD in an enterprise setting that meets the above requirements.

Engineers Australia CPD Activities

CPD activities include participation in the following activities.

  1. Short courses, lectures, forums, discussion groups, conferences, professional evaluations, and technical meetings
  2. Systematic postgraduate research leading to an award or specific tertiary course units not taken to receive an award;
  3. Independent research that extends applicants’ experience and skills
  4. Contribution to the engineering profession
  5. Content planning and presentation preparation for courses, conferences, lectures, and conferences
  6. Any other formal activities involved during your working days

CPD Types and Examples

When the applicants are applying for the registration process, they have to show the total hours of CPD completed within the previous three years before applying. Applicants who have not completed their 150 hours of CPD in the past three years will have to show at least 50 hours of CPD in the last twelve months before applying.

The registered applicants will be put through a review every five years. During this review session, your CPD records and experience statements will be reviewed. However, the timing for review depends on the hours of CPD you have gained in the three years before the registration process. 50% of your CPD activity should be focused on your technical area of expertise.
